Space Pirates! Presented by Storybook Island & Black Hills Playhouse Dakota Players 

About the Show:  Pirates! Aliens! Space Travel! Space Pirates tells the story of Gabby, a kid who gets picked on during a school trip to the museum. Everything quickly changes when an alien spaceship accidentally beams Gabby and her classmates up to outer space. Things go from bad to worse when the alien spaceship is suddenly attacked by SPACE PIRATES! It’s only after this whirlwind space adventure that Gabby becomes comfortable in her own skin, and her classmates appreciate her for who she is. 

Day camp: June 16th- 28th

Location: Storybook Island Theater - 1301 Sheridan Lake Road, Rapid City, SD

Schedule:  M-F 10am-2pm  

Performance Dates: 6/28 2pm & 5pm.  Each show is 45 minutes long. 

What to Expect at Storybook Island’s Summer Theater Camp

Get ready for a magical adventure on stage! At Storybook Island’s Summer Theater Camp, campers will dive into the exciting world of theater through acting and creative movement. Throughout the camp, children will participate in fun drama games, learn stage fundamentals, and perform this original show written by the Black Hills Playhouse. They’ll also explore costume and set design, helping bring their stories to life. On the final day of camp, families are invited to watch the campers showcase their talents in a delightful performance. No prior theater experience is needed—just a love for imagination and fun!

Requirements: Age K- 8th grade. Must be able to read. 

Please make sure your child is dressed accordingly for the weather, Please bring a sack lunch and a water bottle. Make sure your child has sunscreen as well.  There will be a 30 minute lunch each day.

A registration form will be emailed to you once payment is received. Please allow up to 3 business days for us to send you the form.

Price: $200 per child

You Look Marvelous! Presented by Storybook Island & Black Hills Playhouse Dakota Players.

You Look Marvelous offers a humorous twist on Hans Christian Andersen's tale, "The Emperor's New Clothes" about the pitfalls of vanity and greed.  In this rendition, the Suzerain, fixated on new attire, falls victim to fake weavers. These impostors claim to create invisible garments visible only to the competent. As the emperor parades in the 'new clothes,' the townspeople stay silent, fearing ridicule for not seeing them. It's only when the youth speak the truth, breaking the spell, that the reality comes to light. This production encourages viewers to see through the heart, not just the mind, to perceive deeper truths and embrace authenticity.
